BOARD APPROVED NOVEMBER 1, 2010
TRAILER ESTATES PARK & RECREATION DISTRICT
BOARD OF TRUSTEE WORKSHOP
OCTOBER 11, 2010
7:30 P.M.
SMALL HALL
1903 69th Avenue West
Bradenton, Florida 34207
The workshop was called to
order at 7:33 p.m. by Chairman Martha Brauer.
All trustees were present.
Computer for the Office: TJ needs a new
computer. Jane’s computer is the worst
of the two. It has a bad hard
drive. The server is not the
problem. TJ will get the new computer
and her old one will go to Jane. Cost:
$1,000-$1,500.
Meeting Schedule: Last spring,
Gail’s neighbor suggested the Board consider having meetings/workshops every
other week. Gail and Margo both like the
idea. Joe clarified that there would be
evening meetings, too. Board meetings
followed by a workshop will begin at 9:30 a.m. the first Monday of the
month. On the third Monday of the month,
Board meetings followed by a workshop will begin at 7 p.m. This new schedule begins with the first
Monday in November. If there is a fifth
Monday, the Board will decide whether or not it will meet.
In regards to Nov. 15, Martha
announced that the Board will need a recording secretary since it is Candidates
Night and Gail is a candidate.
Public Comment: None.
Waste Management: Our contract
with them expires February 1, 2011. Joe
presented information about our present contract as well as possible changes if
we go with Waste Pro. We will ask both
companies for bids on the following:
One pickup
Two Pickups
Rolloffs
Rolloffs
Recycle
Recycle
Public Comment:
Mary Huston, 1714 MN: Who makes the money on the recycling? Joe:
They do. Mary feels everyone should
put his/her trash in containers.
Debbie Hutchinson, 1907
IN: She likes recycling for many reasons
including the fact that it creates less trash.
Bev Lew, 2008 IL: Suggests we put the trash information in the
Tribune to let the renters know our policy.
Jim:
He urges residents to accompany their workers to the trash bins. Don’t give them your key.
Repair Water Damage at Activity Center:
Fred shared four bids with
the Board in regards to this: 1) GT
Bray, $870. They did the job nine years
ago but have three complaints against them with the Better Business Bureau. 2)
Chas. A. Roy Roofing, $4,550.
They will give a two-year guarantee and have an “A” rating with the
Better Business Bureau. 3) Manson Roofing, $4,988. They, too, have an “A” rating with the Better
Business Bureau. 4) Gulfside Roofing, $3750, and they have an “A”
rating. We will use 30-year shingles for
the job. Fred and Mark recommended the
Board go with Chas. A. Roy Roofing.
Mangrove Trimming:
Two kinds of trimming are
done on the mangroves—historical and navigational. We are allowed to do historical
ourselves. This is done because it
blocks our view of the Bay from our park.
To do the work ourselves we would
have to rent equipment. Bids on the
trimming: Pete & Ron, $7,700; Green, $4,800; Sun Coast, $2,900. It has been considered that we hire Green at
$1,850 to do the navigational trimming and Sun Coast at $500 to the historical
trimming.
Public Comment:
Mary Huston, 1714 MN: Mark, have you ever done the historical
trimming before? Is it better to have a
professional do it?
Mark:
Several years ago, we did the trimming one time. It was a big job. I believe we can do a good job.
Connie Zack, 6918 MA: We only have three questions for the trustee
candidates; we need more.
The Workshop was adjourned at
8:46 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Gail Opper, Secretary
